Why Your Child Should Take
an Annual Physical Exam

By Dr. Ruby Punongbayan

Know more about your child’s developmental progress, nutrition condition, and mental health wellness Adults are accustomed to undergoing annual physical exams and these are considered beneficial in terms of preventive measures and overall health.

Every year we undergo extensive health tests to inform ourselves of our body’s state. Annual physical exams give us a clear view of our condition—what we have done right, where we need to improve, and what we need to cease doing.

As parents we understand that our children’s health is a top priority. When our children are in the pink of health, the opportunities become endless. If we could take preventive measures to assure us of our child’s perfect health, wouldn’t we secure it?

Ape For Children

Centre Medicale Internationale (CMI) understands the desire of parents to present their children with every possible advantage. This is the reason it has designed specially designed Annual Physical Exam programs for children 3 to 18 years old. The same way that we, the adults, benefit and rely on annual physical exams to ensure we are in our best condition, the Annual Physical Exam programs for children and adolescents prepare them to learn and explore the world.

Dr. Ruby Ann Punongbayan, CMI’s ambulatory pediatrician says, “An annual physical exam for children and adolescents is an integral part of the preventive component of a comprehensive health care for these age groups. It would be able to prevent or mitigate occurrences of common illnesses through vaccination and health education. Certain age groups would need a timely early identification of potential visual and hearing problems which may impede learning in kids.”

Dr. Punongbayan adds, “For adolescents who may be sexually active, it is a must to identify those with potentially sexually transmitted infections, hence the recommendation to do screening tests. All of these screening tests per age group have been validated internationally and locally, is research and evidence-based, and is common practice among pediatricians.” “The screening tests for potential presence of anxiety and depression among adolescents are a must considering the current dramatic increase in these conditions. Not all pediatricians are trained to do this screening test,” says Dr. Punongbayan who has been offering psychological tests to identify anxiety and depression since CMI’s inception.

Prevention, as the saying goes, is better than cure. Wouldn’t prevention be optimized best when started in the formative years?

At CMI, we understand the hopes and goals of a parent. You want to give your children every possible opportunity to ensure their well-being. CMI will provide choices of routine examinations for children 3 to 18 that will allow them to achieve their best physical and mental states for the future.
