Dr. Fontanilla is a board-certified ophthalmologist, specializing in uveitis and ocular immunology. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital and fellowship in uveitis and ocular immunology at the University of Chicago, Illinois. He is a fellow of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a former dean of the San Beda University College of Medicine and the current Vice President for Research and Innovation at the same institution.
